Godzilla felt again in West End, see video

Westbank Projects Corp and Peterson Investment Group, with City permission, have proceeded with the demolition of community landmark St. John’s Church. The building was only 30 years old, but a church has been on the site for over 100 years. Here you see the excavator dropping a 5000 pound ball from about 20 feet to smash concrete, creating shock waves that spread for several blocks in one of Canada’s most densely populated residential communities. Vancouver has no bylaw regulating ground vibrations, and is not measuring vibrations or their impacts on the community, though this demolition has been going on for weeks now. Air quality around the site is also not being monitored. The community must speak up and demand new bylaws to protect livability of communities in the face of demolition and construction.
