Concord Pacific demolition equipment takes first swipe at Maxines (1215 Bidwell)

At 11:15 am on Saturday, August 20, 2011, Concord Pacific had a firm named Total Demo deliver heavy-duty demolition equipment to Maxine’s (1215 Bidwell). Although city staff informed a citizen on Friday that the demolition permit had not yet been issued, it appears that the equipment already began demolishing the building that same day (see photo), in apparent violation of regulations.

The property was the first to be rezoned under Vision Vancouver’s controversial STIR program in December 2009. Owned at the time by Millennium, the property was apparently acquired by Concord Pacific a few months ago. Concord Pacific appears to be going ahead with the development of what is now being named the Alexandra. To our knowledge, no information about the deal or about the demolition schedule has been announced to the public. Neighbours are encouraged to contact the city to find out what measures Concord Pacific is taking to minimize disturbances on the community.
