Next Community Plans: Meeting on Mon., Sept 12 (GWAC) is relevant to West End

(Note: WEN has word that the City is now hiring a planner (Planner II, temporary full time) for the West End planning process. Application deadline is Sept 13.) Also, the Grandview-Woodland Area Council (GWAC) monthly meeting on Sept 12 will cover the upcoming community planning process that community is about to undergo. The third agenda item (see italics below) is relevant for the West End. We encourage interested neighbours to attend, and welcome your reports back by e-mail.

Discussion of community issues, possibly including

(1) Port truck traffic: Port Metro Vancouver’s 90-day Truck Traffic Pilot Program, which began 25 August, does not allow trucks to use Nanaimo Street.

(2) Co:Here housing initiative: Proposed community housing project at the southwest corner of Victoria and First, involving a rezoning application from RT-5 (Two-Family Dwelling) District to a Comprehensive Development (CD-1) District.

(3) Grandview-Woodland Community Plan: Council voted 28 July for Grandview-Woodland, Marpole, and the West End to receive Community Plans. (Terms of Reference for the plans to be defined first; the plans proper are likely to start in the fall for Grandview-Woodland and Marpole.) Members of the Mount Pleasant Community Liaison Group (CLG) may be present to speak about their experience with the Mount Pleasant Community Plan process.
