This meeting is being offered (1) to build community by providing information and creating the space for an open discussion on critical issues of community planning – including livability, affordability, character, and sustainability of our neighbourhood, and (2) to give people what they need to articulate their own thoughts to Mayor and Council, including at the June 11 public hearing for the rezoning of 1401 Comox.

Public Hearing for Rezoning & Development Permit at 1401 Comox Street

This rezoning is for a 22-storey tower of market-priced rental (7.19 FSR) at 1401 Comox Street (site of St. John’s Church). We urge you to review information from WEN on this application, plus the official City information, then prepare your thoughts, and either

Millions of words have been spoken and written about this application by Westbank Projects Corp., Peterson Investment Group and Henriquez Partners Architects since it first appeared in 2009. Our website coverage of this project has been updated here. This rezoning is an important test case for the West End and the entire city.
Bottom line: This proposal is virtually unchanged since the original submission in 2009. There is no compelling justification for the large proposed density increase above the current zoning and many people believe the current proposed project will damage the character and livability of the West End.
Building Representatives Wanted
Building reps are wanted in the West End who are willing to help raise awareness and distribute information affecting the community, plus “pledge to speak” cards for Public Hearings. For the upcoming 1401 Comox hearing on June 11, we have “pledge cards” to leave in common areas or to distribute.
