(Updated post) July 19 was the deadline for an online survey at this phase of the West End planning process, but City staff continue to receive input from residents.
The City of Vancouver Planning Department is continuing its work to complete a community plan for the West End. The plan is expected to be finalized and considered by City Council late in 2013 and will regulate future growth and change in the neighbourhood and will establish a framework for issues like housing, transportation, parks, and community facilities. Having a plan in place means that future development proposals can be “measured” against these plan policies to ensure they are meeting the objectives for the neighbourhood.
But it is essential that residents “speak up” and participate in the planning process to ensure the content of the plan meets their vision for the future of the neighbourhood.
Information on the planning process, including background information and details of the current “plan directions” is located at this link:
“Plan Directions” were presented to the public in a series of Open Houses in June. Information on these directions is located under the “Documents” tab at the above link. For your convenience, here are specific panels.

The City has requested feedback on the plan directions and while the online survey opportunity closed July 19, 2013, City staff have indicated that written comments and input will be accepted for the rest of the summer. Please consider taking some time to share your thoughts with City Staff on issues like proposed areas for development, building heights, the future of shopping areas, proposals for laneway buildings, and changes to parking regulations.
