2015 in the West End: Best Wishes to All – 2nd Year of Community Plan Implementation

Thank you to all supporters who have followed and contributed to West End Neighbours and who got actively involved in the community in 2014.

We got started in 2010 and have been actively engaged in various issues in the West End since then. Last year was the first year of the implementation of the new West End Community Plan, and as a community we are still observing how it is playing out. Residents’ involvement continues to be important.

In 2015, West End Neighbours looks forward to your support, and we will continue to follow our mission: To enhance and celebrate the quality of life, the distinct, diverse character and the heritage of the West End, a livable neighbourhood between downtown Vancouver and Stanley Park. We accomplish this by influencing policy decisions and ensuring change is based on evolving community needs, is neighbourly and respectful and reflects relevant and timely engagement with residents. From City Hall’s West End planning team, a message went out to the public in December. We copy it below, for your convenience.

Over the summer and fall, we’ve been busy creating a colourful, easy-to-read version of the West End Community Plan. Want to take a look? It’s now available in both PDF format and as a hard copy. If you’d rather flip through the printed plan document, it’s available at several locations in the West End: Joe Fortes Library, West End Seniors Network (Barclay Heritage Square), and Gordon Neighbourhood House.

We also created a fun and informative infographic with highlights from the West End Community Plan.

Happy Holidays!

Warm Regards,

West End Planning Team

In November 2013, City Council approved the West End Community Plan. The plan provides long-range guidance on a variety of issues – including housing, transportation, parks and public space, social issues, arts, culture, heritage and more. The new plan replaces the older West End Commercial Policy Plan (1986) and West End Residential Areas Policy Plan (1987).
