Our Public Spaces
What’s your vision for public space?
Vancouver’s public spaces – our plazas, squares, streets, laneways, pathways, and waterfront – are where public life happens.
We’re looking for your feedback on how to plan and deliver exceptional, vibrant, and memorable public spaces, places, and experiences in the downtown peninsula.
Learn more and sign up for email updates on the project and upcoming events by visiting us at vancouver.ca/placesforpeople
Also, take the time to provide your feedback with our online survey and show us your ideas for public space on an interactive map, and register for our walking tours.
Keep an eye out for us in the downtown this summer. Check out our kiosk, take our survey, and pick up a free public space map and collectible postcards.
We will be in the West End:
July 13, 3-6 pm – Jim Deva Plaza (TOMORROW)
Do you have a passion for public space and urban design and want to help us better understand public life in the downtown?
As part of Places for People Downtown, we are looking for engaged, committed and enthusiastic individuals to help us with the City’s first ever Public Space and Public Life Study this summer. The study will assess how people use downtown public spaces and seek their feedback on the quality of these spaces.
If you are interested in volunteering, please let us know by emailing us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
New Trial Plaza Opens at Bute and Robson Street
Opened in time for Canada Day on July 1, the plaza will remain until October 16.
Lessons learned during the trial will inform a potential permanent plaza at this location.
This space was identified in the City’s Transportation 2040 and West End plans as a potential future public space.
West End Planning Team
ABOUT THE WEST END COMMUNITY PLAN
In November 2013, City Council approved the West End Community Plan. The plan provides long-range guidance on a variety of issues – including housing, transportation, parks and public space, social infrastructure, arts, culture, heritage and more. The new plan replaces the older West End Commercial Policy Plan (1986) and West End Residential Areas Policy Plan (1987).
For information on the plan, on-going implementation work, or upcoming events and opportunities for public involvement, please stay in touch via the following means:
